Try to never be open to more than 3 fronts at once. They make you so much money it's obscene.Įxpand with consideration for choke points. You will need a fighting navy to keep the routes safe, and trading ships to sit on the trade nodes for income. If you start at the western half of the map, invest in navy early and dominate all the trade routes with foreign powers. You can make your elite archers pin-point accurate in their fire. Shogun 2 is the last Total War game to feature accuracy as an upgradeable statistic, and it shows.

If you get access to a city with Fletchers make sure to upgrade accuracy and recruit all your archers there. Speaking of Blacksmiths, Fletchers are also a very important upgrade building. Armor is good all the time, and helps your frontline stay alive long enough to actually enter melee. Remember, archers dominate in Samurai warfare. If you get a city with Blacksmith/Iron, upgrade armor instead of weapons. And what panicks and routs archers faster than light cavalry? If you can properly disrupt their fire while maintaining your own volleys you should be good to go in battles. Nobody carries a shield in Shogun, so archers rule the roost. In the early game prioritize unlocking light cavalry. Spear walls in siege defense battles are also brutally cost efficient. They are tactically inflexible and have trouble being aggressive (like attacking a hill) so you want Samurai eventually, but you can get by for a looooong time with Yari Ashigaru. Welcome to /r/TotalWar!Ī subreddit for all of those who love the Total War series. This last might seem like madness, but Awa is blessed with plentiful warhorses, a valuable resource for anyone planning to expand their clan army. Now they have to make an interesting strategic decision: deal with their immediate enemies in Iyo, crush the Ichijo clan at home in Tosa, or attack the Miyoshi clan of Awa province. With their strength concentrated in Tosa province, the Chosokabe are already at war with the Kono clan of Iyo to the northwest. Kunichika can take advantage of the Chosokabe’s traditional strengths: they are phenomenal farmers, and gain extra income from their lands they produce superb archers and cheap archer units too. Chosokabe Kunichika, the daimyo, is certainly bold and brave enough to have imperial blood in his veins: he once jumped off an Ichijo castle wall for a dare! He has now broken with the Ichijo, rebuilt Chosokabe influence, and vowed revenge on his enemies. Despite their long history, the Chosokabe clan has had mixed fortunes, and has been under the protection of the Ichijo, who helped them to recapture their castle at Oko. The Chosokabe clan claim descent from the Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang. Campaign Starting position Initial challenge
